First Reconciliation Information
The sacrament of reconciliation is usually celebrated when a child is in the second grade. The church recognizes that parents are the first teachers of their children, and we provide parents with tools and resources to prepare their child to receive the sacrament of reconciliation. A meeting is held in September for all second grade parents, and the sacrament of reconciliation is celebrated in December.
If a child has completed second grade elsewhere and has not received the sacrament, special arrangements will be made, pending the approval of the director of religious education and the Pastor.
First Communion Information
The sacrament of the Eucharist is received for the first time in second grade. A parent meeting is held in January, and parents and teachers work with the children to prepare them to receive the precious Body and Blood of Jesus. A retreat for the children is held in early spring; parental assistance is greatly appreciated to make this retreat an enriching experience for everyone.
First Communion is celebrated on the first Saturday in May.
Special arrangements will be made for older children who have not yet received the sacrament of the Eucharist.
Special Note
A two year preparation period is required by the Diocese of Wilmington. In order to receive Reconciliation and First Communion, one must register and attend Religious Education for First and Second Grade.
