Curriculum:
We use a program entitled. "Pflaum Gospel Weeklies" for grades K to eight.
Attendance:
Attendance at the Wednesday night program is very important: please come as often as possible! Parents can help keep their child up to date after absences by asking the catechist for the missed assignments. We offer kindergarten class as an option, but please don’t miss out on grades 1-8. Family attendance at Mass will help your child integrate the concepts covered on Wednesday nights.
Parent Involvement:
Our CCD program exists through the partnership of parents and parishioners in the work of faith formation. The more you give in this partnership, the greater your own spiritual formation and growth and the greater the example for your own children. Good Shepherd has a terrific volunteer rate, which we appreciate very much. If you haven’t found YOUR way to be involved, please call the parish office
Catechists Training and Screening:
Our Catechists and assistants participate in the Diocesan Catechist Certfication Program which involves completion of 36 hours of training for basic certification and 120 hours of training for advanced certification. Additionally, we participate in the Diocesan “For the Sake of God’s Children” safe environment program. Volunteers and employees are screened for criminal background and sign a volunteer covenant that defines appropriate boundaries and respectful behavior. You can find more information on this program at the Diocese website (www.cdow.org)
Our Catechists:
Each classroom has a lead catechist and an assistant to help guide your child through our curriculum. It helps tremendously if you introduce yourself to these teachers, let them know when your child will be absent, and follow-up after an absence.
