Sacramental Preparation for Confirmation
This year Good Shepherd Parish will be offering the sacrament of Confirmation to eligible students in eighth grade, and to those in higher grades who have not yet been confirmed.
Ordinarily, candidates for Confirmation are required to complete the prior year of catechesis as well as the current year through a Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) and/or attendance at a Catholic School. This year, our pastor is waiving the requirement for the prior year of catechesis.
Candidates must also have received the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Eucharist.
The program will consist of 30 hours of catechesis (religious education) plus 8 classes of confirmation preparation. Candidates may choose to attend religious education classes on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings. Sunday classes will be offered at Good Shepherd Church from 9:15-10:45am; Wednesday classes will be held from 6:30 to 7:45pm at Good Shepherd School. In February, confirmation classes will begin, and will be offered at Good Shepherd School from 9:15-10:45am, concluding with participation in the 11am Mass at Good Shepherd.
Service hours are also required, as is participation in a confirmation retreat. Confirmation will be conferred on May 15, 2014.
