Baptism is the first of the Sacraments of Initiation into the Catholic faith. Through Baptism, we become members of the Body of Christ. The principal effects are purification from sins and new birth in the Holy Spirit.
Baptisms are usually celebrated on the second and third Sundays of each month. A Baptism class is held for all new parents and is required for Baptism. At least one godparent must be a confirmed, practicing Catholic, whose marriage is recognized as valid by the Church. The other godparent may be a member of any christian denomination, and is considered to be a christian witness.
